The Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has described Delta Central Polytechnic, Ughelli, as the best private polytechnic in Delta State while addressing the audience during his familiarization tour and the commissioning of the Health Information Management and Computer Science laboratories at the institution’s permanent site in Ughelli today.
The Commissioner commended the Rector, Engr. Anthony Okagbare, the management team, and staff of the institution for their dedication and efforts in positioning the polytechnic as one of the fastest growing private institutions in the state.
He encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity to learn and to cultivate the habit of gratitude to God. He further stated that the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orowhedor Oborevwori, consistently emphasizes that education is the key to development and has continued to encourage institutions across the state.
The Rector of Delta Central Polytechnic, Engr. Anthony Okagbare, stated that the presence of the Commissioner and his entourage was not only significant but also deeply inspiring to the institution. He noted that the visit demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to the growth of education and genuine concern for emerging institutions.
The Rector added that since Prof. Tonukari’s last engagement with the institution, remarkable milestones have been achieved. Notably, the institution successfully hosted a visitation team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the accreditation of additional programmes, including health-related courses, an important step in the institutional development and accreditation journey.
Furthermore, the Rector disclosed that significant progress has been made on the institution’s permanent site. He also revealed that the polytechnic has partnered with the international ICT company, Cisco Academy, through which students receive training and internationally recognized certifications in various ICT fields.
He stated that the permanent site structures stand as testimony to the institution’s determination, resilience, and vision for the future. Although the journey has not been easy, he affirmed that their commitment to building a world class institution for business and management education remains unwavering. He used the opportunity to appeal for greater government support.
The Rector also appreciated the host community representatives, past and present leaders of Effurun-Otor Kingdom, whose partnership and goodwill have provided a peaceful and enabling environment for the institution to thrive. He commended the dedicated staff for their tireless services and professionalism, and described the students as the primary reason the institution exists.
The Registrar of Delta Central Polytechnic, Rev. David Otega Jodome, also appreciated the Honourable Commissioner and his entourage. He stated that the Commissioner’s presence at last year’s matriculation ceremony and at the current visitation has added credibility to the institution. He urged the government to continue supporting the polytechnic.
The Registrar further explained that the vision of the institution is to produce competent, well equipped, and credible problem solving graduates who will contribute meaningfully to society, while also making quality education accessible to the people.
